OPERATIONAL SAFETY

FAILURE TO KNOW, UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW THESE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.

OPERATIONAL SAFETY:

• Read and understand the forklift operator’s manual about transporting loads prior to using this device.
• Only personnel trained in the proper and safe usage of RHA units may use this device.
• All warning labels shall be in place and legible at all times. Remove RHA from service if any label is defaced or not legible. Contact you dealer or BHS Technical Support 1.877.BHS.4YOU (1.877.247.4968) for replacement warning labels or instructions.
• All users and service personnel shall be familiar with the meaning of all warning labels and any risks associated with the use of this device. *All operators and service personnel shall be aware of potential crush and shear points while using the attachment. See Figures 1 - 4.
• Keep hands, arms, feet, legs, hair, and jewelry clear of the reel (and its contents) and the RHA stops while loading and unloading the attachment.
• Ensure the reel is secure and properly centered on the attachment prior to lifting or transporting.
• Properly secure the attachment chain to the host truck fork prior to lifting or transporting.
• Avoid abrupt changes in direction when transporting a reel on the attachment to prevent loss of the reel and/or loss of control of the lift truck and attachment.
• Inspect the attachment before use. Remove the device from service if it (or its components) is damaged, excessively worn, operating improperly (or becomes such while operating) or is missing any parts until repairs can be made to correct any problem(s).
• Use the attachment only with reels that are in sound structural condition.
• Inspect the mast and forks of the lift truck for damage and verify the lift/lower mechanisms operate correctly and smoothly without binding prior to using the RHA.
• Travel with the RHA as low to the ground as possible.
• Ensure reach mechanism is retracted on reach trucks before traveling with the RHA.

DO’s AND DON’T’s:

• DO NOT exceed the maximum capacity of attachment.
• ONLY USE the attachment on a lift truck with a capacity equal to or greater than the maximum capacity of the attachment.
• DO NOT use the attachment to handle reels larger than 60” (1524 mm) in diameter.
• DO NOT modify the attachment without prior, written approval from BHS.
• DO NOT perform any maintenance or service to the attachment with a reel loaded on the attachment.
• DO NOT allow anyone to ride on the attachment.
• DO NOT use the attachment in a manner for which it is not intended. Some examples of prohibited use are but not limited to:

   » To transport people 
   » As a vehicle jack 
   » To lift loads greater than its rated load capacity
   » As fork extensions 

• DO NOT operate the attachment within 20’ of any personnel.
• Check for overhead obstructions prior to lifting reel into rack position.
• DO NOT lift or transport a reel without the auxiliary stop securely in place.
• DO NOT tilt the mast forward or backward at anytime while lifting or transporting a reel with the RHA.
